Jennifer Garner was born on 17 April 1972 from Houston, Texas but was raised within Charleston, West Virginia. William John Garner worked as the chemist of Union Carbide. Patricia Ann, her mother taught at a local college. To follow in the footsteps of her father she earned a degree as a chemical engineer. Then she moved in New York in order to pursue her dream of becoming an actor. While appearing in Broadway shows, she worked as a waitress. Garner was a guest star in the television series "Felicity." (It was on that show when she met her first husband Scott Foley.) She got her big break in the action film "Alias." Garner's debut lead role as a character was the acclaimed romance "13 going on thirty." The film starred her as the role of a teenager caught locked in the body the 30-year-old. Garner selected Gary Winick as the director of her film. They continued looking for roles until Winick's passing in 2011. The year 2009 was the first time Garner was named an ambassador to the arts for Save the Children U.S.A. Alongside encouraging early education, literacy, and nutrition on a local level, the role of Garner also includes promotion of nationwide literacy. Garner was elected as a director on the board of this non-profit organisation in 2014. Garner advocates for early child development. Being a part of the Early Steps to School Success (EASS) Ambassador team for the EASS program Garner has visited families on a regular basis to guide them in ways to inspire their kids to be successful.
